To successfully blank the Head-Up Display (HMCS), the correct action is to press the Display Management System (DMS) aft for greater than 0.5 seconds. This function is designed to allow the operator to temporarily deactivate the visual output of the HMCS without altering other settings or power configurations. Pressing the DMS aft initiates a command that signals the system to stop displaying current imagery, which is essential for situations where visual distraction must be minimized, such as during critical phases of flight or when adjusting other settings.

The other options represent various actions that do not achieve the intended result. For instance, pressing DMS forward typically cycles through display options or brings certain elements into focus rather than blanking the screen. Holding the power button for a brief period might be associated with performing a power reset or shutting down the device altogether, which is not suitable for merely blanking the display. Finally, switching off the main power source would completely disable the HMCS along with other systems, creating risks and inconveniences rather than simply turning off the display.
